    Glendale settles into its evening rhythm. The lights along Chevy Chase feel warm. The grill at Arts Bakery & Café sends up a clean thread of smoke. Skewers hiss, tomatoes blister, and the room fills with that slow, savory aroma of charcoal.

    The bakery’s roots run deep in this city. Simon and Angela Grigoryan opened Art’s in the late nineties, and the shop grew into a hub for breads, pastries, and the kind of café plates that bring people back again and again.
